These grow to over 2 m tall, often in large clusters, and often alongside forestry roads, not easy to miss. We photographed this young plant at 1600 m altitude near the Col de Turini.

Flower Blossom.
4 petals; 10-15 mm long. Violet or purple-red, 2-3 cm, in long pointed clusters.
Leaves.
Lanceolate, 5-15 cm long, slightly toothed, alternate.
Habitat.
Rocky ground, rock slides, forest clearings, waste ground, mountain forests, river banks.
Altitude.
2500 m max.
